Mana River Camp, Mana Pools
Spectacularly positioned along the banks of the mighty Zambezi River and offering fantastic elephant sightings, wonderful game drives, walking safaris and outstanding birding, this beautiful camp delivers a luxurious twist on a traditional, real bush camping experience. Each of the camp’s 6 cosy Sahara canvas and gauze tents with zipped entrances offer stunning views of the Zambezi River and feature en-suite bathroom areas, large comfortable beds and verandas with camp chairs. The camp’s main area is made up of an open-air dining / communal area and a fire-pit boma. Activities include walking safaris and game drives in the wonderful Mana Pools National Park, along the game rich river banks, and through the floodplains surrounding the camp where the Albida trees attract various wildlife. Birdwatching trips are also available
Sable Valley Lodge, Hwange
Known for its sprawling grassy plains and abundance of wildlife diversity, Sable Valley in the heart of the Dete Vlei is part of The Amalinda Safari Collection and is an historic and comfortable lodge. The lodge was made famous back in 1991 when the late Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip chose this lodge for their Safari adventure. Fully refurbished in 2022, the lodge offers contemporary comforts combined with traditional style. Accommodation is provided in 11 forest chalets, or 'rondavels', which are generously spaced around the beautiful central swimming pool, and which offer a range of bed configurations, ensuite bathrooms and private terrace areas.
The open-sided main area of the lodge, a striking thatched structure, offers up welcoming and cosy places from which to mingle with other guests and enjoy some relaxation after long days on safari, with comfy sofas and beanbags, and a sunken firepit. From here guests can enjoy memorable vistas over the Vlei and a nearby waterhole where the patient observer is rewarded by large herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra and various antelope species as well as being regularly frequented by lions and cheetahs, and occasionally by leopards, hyenas, wild dogs and other predators. Gourmet cuisine is served communally around the Captain’s table, usually set up outside, and the pizza oven is a firm favourite with younger visitors. With its own private entrance into Hwange National Park, guests can enjoy walking safaris and game drives, and the lodge’s own game viewing hide and treehouse viewing platform, as well as visits to learn about local community projects.
