Reykjavik & Hveragerdi
1Day

Reykjavik & Hveragerdi

Arrive independently to Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, collect your hire car, and take to the roads. Your accommodation tonight will be at the beautiful boutique countryside hotel Frost and Fire in Hveragerdi and we suggest stopping at the famous Blue Lagoon along the way before driving along the scenic South Coast road and through the small fishing village of Eyrarbakki.

Your hotel for tonight and tomorrow night is ideally located for exploring Iceland’s southwest coast. It features a sauna, outdoor thermal pool, thermal river and riverside hot tubs, as well as spectacular countryside views. Make sure to keep an eye out for the Northern Lights each night!

Please note: the places and areas to visit that are described in this itinerary are suggestions only, based on the location of your accommodation for each night. As this a self-drive itinerary, you have the flexibility to chart your own route, knowing that there is a comfortable bed waiting for you at the end of every action-packed day.

Myrdalsjökull & Vatnajökull
2Day

Myrdalsjökull & Vatnajökull

Today we recommend spending the full day along the beautiful south coast. Waterfalls, famous black beaches and glaciers are all within easy reach. You could take a trip to the impressive Myrdalsjökull glacier and explore the small scenic town of Vik including its bustling bird cliffs. Or you could venture even further and drive to Skaftafell National park and up to Glacier Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe. Here you can enjoy incredible photo opportunities at the stunning glacier lagoon Jökulsarlon and discover iconic locations that have been used in many Hollywood movies and TV shows.

Golden Circle
3Day

Golden Circle

As you leave Hveragerdi behind, today we recommend driving what is commonly known as the “Golden Circle” as you make your way back to Reykjavik. This will see you discover some of Iceland’s most photographed and iconic sights. Visit the mighty Gullfoss waterfall and the awe-inspiring Geysir hot spring area to see bubbling hot springs and the famous spouting Strokku, and take a memorable visit to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is certain to impress. Along the way you may also wish to visit Skálholt which was home to the head of the Icelandic Church from 1056 AD, and the remarkable Kerið volcanic crater.

At a time that suits, arrive back in Reykjavik and check in to your 4* hotel for your 2 night stay.

Reykjavik
4 - 5Days

Reykjavik

Today is free to enjoy an exploration of vibrant and unique Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital city. You may wish to join some of the many tours available from Reykjavik including whale watching and horse riding tours. Or you might simply want to enjoy a wander around the town sampling the culture and cuisine. We recommend a visit to Hallgrimskirkja church, the Harpa concert hall and Perlan where you can get stunning panoramic views of the city.

After breakfast on the morning of day 5, you will drive to Keflavik International Airport to return your hire car and take your onward or homeward flights. Should you wish to stay longer in Reykjavik, or discover even more of Iceland, please feel free to enquire about possible extensions to your tour.
