Trelew

Arrive at Trelew and transfer to Paradise Hosteria at Puerto Piramides. The hotel overlooks the Golfo Nuevo and whales can sometimes be seen breaching from the hotel.

Orca Watching
2-7Days

Orca Watching

Early morning approximately one-hour drive across the peninsula to set up our equipment at
the attacking channel at Punta Norte. You have to arrive there three hours before the highest
level of high tide and stay there another three hours after the high tide. During this period the
travel group is in contact with the researchers of the orca-project and with the nature
conservation authority of the province of Chubut. When orcas are sighted by the observers,
the researchers of PNOR (Punta Norte Orca Research) receive the details of the animals’
locations by radio. Then, individual orca will be identified if possible. From the beach you observe
the activities of the orcas. Very often you can watch the orcas patrolling the beach in order to
check if young sea lion pups are playing in the surf. What everybody is really waiting for is the
chance to observe the orcas when they are using their spectacular hunting techniques to catch
a pup off the beach which is called an “intentional stranding” by researchers.

On days when the orcas may not show up near the hunting beaches or when the weather and sea conditions prevent them from hunting, alternative programmes are offered. Other wildlife seen in  the region includes foxes, armadillos, various sea bird species, herons and turkey vultures as well as the huge colonies of sea lions. A visit of a local fishing village is also planned.

Trelew
8Day

Trelew

If there is high tide in the morning, there may be another opportunity to observe the orcas. Transfer to Trelew airport in the evening for return flight.

Thank you and your team for arranging what was a fantastic holiday in Argentina...Iguazu falls was exceptional with our guide knowing an awful lot about the falls and the wildlife. Could go on forever, but had better stop.
• We thought the accommodation was good throughout and offered a good mix of activities. All the transfers ran seamlessly and the food exceeded expectations. Really liked the hotel in Buenos Aires and the tango evening was a lot of fun. Thoroughly enjoyed our few days in the Lake district and the Perito Moreno Glacier and Fitz Roy didn’t disappoint and we even got lucky with the weather.
We were really lucky with the orcas and saw stranding every day. Frank, our guide did his very best to get us in the right position at the right time to make sure we all went home with some fantastic photos. I feel very privileged to have witnessed this spectacular event, it was just like the BBC documentary I watched a couple of years ago that first got me interested in whales.
The holiday was very enjoyable and well planned and was the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. The best bit was the whale watching on the Valdes Peninsula and the copious amounts of red wine and steak we had, not at the same time I might add!
We would like to thank you with all our heart for our fabulous trip. It was amazing. Everything was perfect. I recommend Antarctica and South America to everybody. Doing business with you was also a great experience. You are the best travel agent I ever met. I hope to have the chance to do business with you again in the future.
We've just got back from out trip to Patagonia and the Antarctic and want to say a big thank you to all of you at Wildfoot but specifically you, Tina and Sara, for organising our trip and sorting out all my queries before we went. You've all been thoroughly professional - and friendly with it. I always get concerned that hotels won't have received the booking, the air e-tickets won't be recognised or luggage ends up somewhere other that where we are, but I didn't need to worry as everything was well planned in advance and the various elements, air travel, two cruises, hotels etc, fitted seamlessly. You can take this as a 10 out of 10 satisfaction rating and recommendation for your company. You will certainly be my 'go to' provider if we ever do anything similar in the future. Thanks once again for our trip of a lifetime.
