Ship based expeditions

Arctic adventure voyages have been specially designed with the active traveller in mind, offering some exciting optional activities. They are ideal for those always on the move since all sailings offer an average of three shore landings per day whilst in the Arctic and not ‘at sea’ . On board, the education programme covers a wide range of topics from identifying seabirds and other fauna and flora topics to the prospects for the Arctic itself. Wildlife viewing is integral to any Arctic adventure with opportunities to get close (but not necessarily too close!) to seals, whales polar bears, walrus and a whole host of birdlife.

The optional Arctic adventures on offer are kayaking, showshoeing, scuba, cross-country skiing and mountain climbing. The choice of options differs by departure and vessel; all are available on a first come, first served basis. Sea-kayakers and scuba divers experience the polar waters at their most serene and tranquil and get remarkably close to the amazing wildlife and towering icebergs.

Kayaking The Arctic

Each sea kayaking in the Arctic excursion will provide paddlers with a different view of The Arctic, even more exhilarating than that enjoyed by those in the zodiacs or on shore.

Scuba Diving & Snorkelling The Arctic

Explore the magical underwater world of Arctic waters with experienced Arctic Scuba Dive Masters who guide you through a fantastic and largely unexplored paradise.

Photography

Wildlife and scenic photography opportunities cannot get any better than in the polar regions. Everywhere you look is a potential landscape or wildlife encounter. All of our WILDFOOT vessel based expeditions include photographic experts who make the Zodiac landings with you and there to offer tips and advice or even spot exceptional opportunities if you don’t see them first. We also have experts with-in our team if you would like to seek advice in advance.

Arctic at Ground Level - Land Based

If you really want to experience the Arctic in the raw, then there is no better way than to spend time out in the wilderness skiing, hiking, climbing or dogsledding in Spitsbergen. What’s more, many of these expeditions can be undertaken in winter and summer.
