Fair Isle & Jan Mayan to Spitsbergen Whale Safari 10 days

Embark in the afternoon and set sail

On the way to Fair Isle, we keep a look out for minke whales and orca, as well as white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoise.

On the island we can walk to the bird observatory and meet the locals, many of whom produce the eponymous knitwear, famed around the world.

Spend time on deck looking for whale blows and maybe an inquisitive pod of orca. Good bird sightings too. Participate in our expert lecture programme.

This beautiful and rarely visited island is dominated by the massive volcano, Mount Beerenberg, with its impressive glaciers spilling into the sea. We plan to visit the weather station and also walk across the island to Kvalrossbukta to the remains of a 17th century Dutch whaling station.

We now encounter sea ice and, apart from bowhead, fin and other whales,as well as many seabirds, we may even see polar bears hunting seals on the ice.

Near Poolepynten, we look for walrus and also plan to land at Alkhornet, where there is a massive seabird colony. Also hope to encounter Arctic fox and reindeer on the hillsides and tundra.
